Nowadays we have fire engines with ladders on them which allow firefighters to rescue people in tall buildings which are on fire. But did you know that in the olden days firefighters used strap on wings to fly up to the higher floors of buildings? This was very tricky, as they had to hover at the right height while maintaining control of the hose.
We only know about these skilled heroes through the discovery of a painting by Jean-Marc Cote which illustrates how fires were fought in the year 2000. What a long way we have come since then!
